How to make a monster card using the Builder Owl Punch

P1010119.JPG

I really like my Builder Owl Punch, you can make a lot of different things, here we will look at making a monster card.

For this project you will need the following supplies:

Stampin' Up! Builder Owl Punch

Stampin' Up! Play Pennants Stamp Set

Coloured card stock

Black and white card stock

Paper Trimmer

Glue and/or adhesive

Black fine point marker

We will start by cutting the A4 black card stock in half using the paper trimmer.

P1010098.JPG

Fold your black card in half to make the base of our card.

Cut your White card stock in half, and in half again, until it is the size of the front of the card.

P1010100.JPG

Trim the white card by at least 1cm on the long and the short side, so that there is a black border when you stick it to the front of the card. Keep the trimmed white strips for the monster eyes. Don't stick the white card down just yet.

P1010101.JPG

Trim a strip, about an inch wide, off of each of the colours of card stock that you have chosen for your monster.

P1010120.JPG

Turn your Builder Owl Punch upside down, and thread your strip of coloured paper through the side. While holding the coloured paper with one hand, push the punch down with the other hand until the body of your monster pops out.

Repeat this step with each of your four chosen strips of colour.

You should now have four little monster bodies.

Don't stick them down yet.

P1010106.JPG

Draw a funny mouth on your monster bodies using your black marker. Remember, if you don't like the look of the first mouth you draw you can flip your monster over and draw another mouth on the other side.

Use those white strips that you trimmed off your card stock for the eyes. Turn your Builder Owl Punch upside down, thread the strip of white card stock through the side and while holding it with your left hand, push the punch down with the right hand until the eyes pop out. Repeat four times.

Draw black dots on your white eyes (you can see this to the left of this photo). I find it easier to draw the dots before I stick down the eyes.

Next put two dots of glue on the monster, around about where you want the eyes to go.

Stick the eyes to the monster. Repeat this process (drawing on the mouth, the pupils, putting glue dots on the monster and sticking down the eyes) for all four monsters.

Arrange your monsters on your card and decide where you want the greeting to go. Don't stick them down yet. The first time I did this I managed to stick them down so that the card opened backwards. We will stick down at the end when we have figured out where everything goes.

P1010114.JPG

I used a bit of scrap coloured paper as a back ground for my greeting. You could stamp your greeting directly onto the white card stock, or stamp it onto some coloured scrap, cut it out, and then shuffle the pieces of paper. I decided I preferred the greeting towards the right, rather than the left, after I had all my pieces ready.

Use your glue or adhesive to stick your pieces down, and you have a colourful monster card.

I normally cut down a piece of white card stock to stick inside the card, to make writing on the card easier, when I use dark coloured card stock as the base for my card.

The products that I used for this card can be found on the Stampin' Up! website, and you can contact me if you are interested in purchasing any of them. I have provided the links for them below:
