Stars Framelits Dies from Stampin Up

I have finally found some time to play with my new Stars Framelits Dies, I really like them because they are fun and aren't bound to one sort of card. You could use them for a Happy Birthday, a Thank You, a Congratulations, or a quick how are you doing?

For these cards above you will need some bright coloured card stock, your Stars Framelits Dies and Big Shot, some white card, and if you want a greeting stamp. My favourite of these cards is actually the one in the top right that has no greeting, and that means you can have it on hand for whatever pops up.

The steps to follow are:

1. Pick your base colour for the card, cut the A4 sheet of card in half, and fold it to make your base.

2. Choose some scrap card, three or four different colours of about 7cm by 7cm, for the stars. For three of the four cards above, I have used the two smallests stars to get this effect.

3. Grab the multi purpose platform for the Big Shot, and find the tab that refers to what you are trying to do. You are using a Framelit which are really thin, you will notice that the Framelits are on the top of the multipurpose platform, which means you don't need to move any tabs.

If you want to look at a video of how to use Framelits on the Big Shot, here is one:

4. Put one of the cutting surfaces (the clear bits of hard plastic) on top of the multipurpose platform.

5. Put your coloured card on top of the cutting surface.

6. Put your framelits die on top of the coloured card, with the cutting edge facing down towards the card. If you are trying to create the above effect, then put the smallest star inside of the second smallest star, it doesn't mater if it is exact you really don't notice if it is slight off centre (many of the stars above were).

7. Put the second cutting surface on top of all of this. Now you have what we call a sandwich.

8. Hold your sandwich with both hands so that the card and the framelits don't move around, and put it onto your Big Shot.

9. Give your sandwich a gentle push towards the Big Shot, and notice which way the handle turns (it can work either way). Which ever way it starts moving, grab the handle and crank the whole sandwich through. If it is too difficult, or too easy, you are probably missing a layer or you have one layer too many.

10. Take your sandwich off of the Big Shot, get out your star, discard the scrap, and repeat with your other colours of card.

11. It is up to you whether you want a white background for your stamps, or whether you want to just put the stamps straight on, which is probably my preference. I made the big star using the biggest star that would fit on my base, cutting out the white card, and then putting the star into one of my embossing folders and running it through my Big Shot, but you don't have to do that either.

12. Arrange your stars on your card without sticking them down, shuffle them until you get an arrangement that you like. Sometimes less is more and removing a star or two helps. Once you are happy with your arrangement, stick your stars down to your card, you would really be better off using glue rather than tape for this it is very fiddly to get tape onto five corners of the star.

13. If you want a greeting, I added a greeting to a small piece of white scrap, cut it out, and then chose some patterned scrap to sit behind it, and stuck it onto the card. It is best to arrange your stars on your card with the greeting, if you are using one, before starting to stick stuff down.

I hope you found these instructions helpful. If you want to purchase a Big Shot or the Framelits the links are below, and you could contact me about that.
