Candle Christmas Card

To make this card you will need the follow supplies from Stampin' Up:

  • Build a Birthday stamp set and coordinating clear blocks

  • Pacific Point and Whisper White card stock

  • Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Tempting Turquoise stamp pads or stampin' write markers

  • Bough & Berries Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Circles Collection Framelits and Big Shot

  • Tear & Tape adhesive (double sided tape)

  • Multipurpose Liquid Glue

Step 1: Create your card base

  • Take an A4 sheet of Whisper White card stock and your Stampin' Trimmer, cut the card stock in half so that you get a piece of card that is 14.8 cm x 21 cm. I do this by lining the edge of the card stock up to the 14.8cm mark along the top of the Trimmer.

  • Score the card stock half way along the long (21cm) side, so at 10.5cm. This is so that you can neatly folder this card stock in half to create the base of your card. Be careful not to accidentally use the cutting blade, make sure you use the lighter coloured scoring blade. Again you can line the card stock up to the measurement along the top of the Trimmer, at 10.5cm.

  • Your card based should be 14.8cm x 10.5cm on the front face.

Step 2: Cut out your border

  • You will need a piece of blue (Pacific Point) card stock which is one quarter the size of an A4 sheet.

  • Use the Stampin Trimmer to cut your A4 card stock it in half, and then in half again, using the instructions above but this time use the cutting blade both times.

  • Once you have your one quarter piece, take a further 1cm off of one long edge, and one short edge, using the Stampin Trimmer.

Step 3: Cut out your circle

Using your Circles Collection Framelits dies, cut out the circle from the piece of blue card stock. We cut out the circle before embossing, because it can be difficult to get a clean cut after embossing.

  • You do this by taking your Big Shot multi purpose platform and creating a 'sandwich'.

  • For Framelits Dies you have all of the tabs together, so you should be looking at the tab on the platform that has a 2 on the right hand side, and that says Framelits on the right hand side.

  • Put one of your clear cutting matts on top of this platform.

  • Put your piece of blue card on top of the clear cutting matt.

  • Put your Die on top of the card stock where you want the hole to go.

  • Put the last clear cutting matt on top.

  • Holding the sandwich together, feed it into one side of the Big Shot and turn the handle until the whole sandwich comes through the other side.

  • If it is quite difficult or too easy, something is wrong. Your sandwich is either too thick or too thin. Go through the steps above again.

Step 4: Embossing the card

Using your Boughs & Berries embossing folder, put the impression onto your blue card stock.

  • Again you need to create a sandwich, this time you would move both tabs 1 and 2 to the left, so that you are looking at the hard plastic base and there are no numbered tabs to the right of the base.

  • Put one of your clear cutting matts on top of this platform.

  • Open your embossing folder, put the blue card inside the embossing folder, and close the embossing folder.

  • Put the embossing folder on top of the clear cutting matt that is already on top of the platform.

  • Put the last clear cutting matt on top.

  • Holding the sandwich together, feed it into one side of the Big Shot, and turn the handle until the whole sandwich comes through teh other side.

  • If it is quite difficult or too easy, something is wrong. Your sandwich is either too thick or too thin. Go through the steps above again.

Step 5: Stamping the candles

Take a scrap piece of white that is big enough to cover the circle in your blue card, or a piece of white that is one quarter of an A4 sheet of paper. We will use this to stamp the candles onto.

  • Don't stamp it directly onto your base card that you created at step 1, because (a) you might make a mistake, and (b) you might not stamp them in the middle. This way you can move the card stock around before gluing it down, or flip it over and start on the other side if you make a mistake.

  • Have a couple of practice stamps on some scrap paper. Because these stamps are so solid, you might need a couple of practices to get the technique for a nice clean image. If the image isn't 'perfect' remember, only you will notice.

  • Take your Build a Birthday stamp set, and place the biggest candle on your size H clear mount block. Stamp your middle colour in the middle of your card, in this case I used the Pacific Point colour for the middle candle.

  • You could do a test stamp first on a scrap of white, as we need some extra candle sticks to cut out later for the greeting.

  • Once you have stamped the middle candle, stamp the two smaller candles using the Bermuda Bay and Tempting Turquoise ink pads.

  • Take your flame stamp, put it onto one of your smaller clear blocks and using the yellow (Daffodil Delight) ink pad, stamp on the flames.

Step 6: Placing the candles in the circle

Now you are ready to start arranging the card.

  • Hold the blue border in front of the piece of paper with the candles on it that you have just created.

  • Shuffle the two until you have an idea of where you want them to be, and trim any white card that you can see poking out behind the blue border.

  • Using your liquid glue attach the candles to the back of the blue border. You don't need alot of liquid glue, in fact too much will deform your card stock.

  • Are you happy with how you stuck them together? If not, because you are using your liquid glue, you can slide them to get them into the position you want.

  • Stick the blue border to the card base using liquid glue or double sided tape.

Step 7: Creating the greeting

  • Take a scrap of white paper and your chosen greeting.

  • Using the Pacific Point ink pad, stamp your greeting onto the scrap card.

  • Cut out or trim the greeting.

  • You can run the edge of the greeting along your ink pad to get some ink on the border, if you want a bit more colour in your greeting.

Step 8: Putting your greeting on your card.

  • Take two of the trial candle stamps that you made at Step 5 and cut them out. If you didn't make trial stamps, then stamp two strips now.

  • Arrange them in an order that you like on the card, with the greeting you created at Step 7, without gluing with down. This is so that you can shuffle it more easily.

  • Once you know what you want, stick them down with liquid glue, again this allows you to move them slightly if you are unhappy with where you put them.
