Christmas bauble card

Christmas bauble card

The items or products that you need to make this card are:

  • Whisper White and Real Red card stock

  • Whisper White and Real Red ink pads

  • Balloons framelits dies, Boughs & Berries textured impressions embossing folder and your Big Shot

  • Celebrate Today stamps and corresponding clear blocks

  • Merry Christmas or other greeting stamp

  • Real red ribbon

  • Stampin' Trimmer

  • Double sided tape

Step 1: Cut out your card stock

Take an A4 sheet of Whisper White card stock and cut it in half length ways, so that you get two pieces of card that are each 10.5cm x 29.7cm. Score one of them half way along the long edge, so at 15cm.

Cut out a piece of real red card stock, so that you have a piece that is 9.5cm x 14cm.

Cut out a piece of white card stock so that it is approximately a quarter of the size of a sheet of A4 paper, so 10.5cm x 14.9cm. We will trim this down later.

If you haven't used your Stampin Trimmer to cut or score card before, have a look at my instructions Stamping and Cutting.

Step 2: Cut out your bauble shape

Using your Balloon Framelits dies, cut out the bauble (upside down balloon) from the smaller piece of white card stock. I cut out the bauble before embossing, because it can be difficult to get a clean cut after embossing.

Hold the white base card, the red backing, and your white bauble outline together and figure out where you want them to line up, so that you know what white card you want to trim off (on your bauble card). Don't stick them together yet. Trim your white card.

If you haven't used your Big Shot to cut out using framelits dies, or emboss (see step 3 below), then have a look at my instructions Using your Big Shot to emboss or cut.

Step 3: Embossing the card

Using your Boughs & Berries embossing folder, put the impression into your white bauble card stock.

Step 4: Stamp your red card base

Put the background pattern on the red card base using your red and white ink pads. In the example I have used the small stars from the Celebrate Today stamp set. Line up your white bauble card to the red base, still don't stick them together. Stamp your pattern using your red ink, clean your stamp, and stamp it using the white ink. Don't stamp it directly one over the other, move it slightly when stamping the white ink. If you don't like where you stamped it you can flip the red card over and stamp the other side, because you haven't stuck them together yet.

Step 5: Making the ribbon detail

Stick down your white card to your red card, and stick your ribbon detail onto the two cards.

  • Using your double sided tape, stick the white bauble card to the red backing card.

  • Hold the ribbon up against the card to measure a piece that will go straight across the card, and with enough overhang to stick down at the back. We will attach the bow afterwards, now you are just doing a flat piece.

  • Cut and stick down the ribbon. Don't stick it down super tight, it will bow the card and you won't have any give to make the bow. I put a bit of double sided tape on the right and left edge of the front of the card, at the top of the white edge, to hold the ribbon in place. I then put a bit of double sided tape on the back of the card to hold down the edges.

  • Now using the ribbon that is still on the spool, create your 'bow' by making one knot above the bauble, with some ribbon hanging out either side. You will probably shuffle the ribbon back and forth a bit. Once you are happy with the placement, cut the piece of ribbon off of the spool.

Step 6: Stick down your red base

Now that you are happy with all of your stamping and ribbon, stick the red card onto the white card base using your double sided tape.

Step 7: Create your greeting

Using your chosen greeting, stamp the greeting using the white ink pad onto a scrap of red card stock. Once you are happy with the greeting, trim it down so it has straight edges and is centred in the piece of card. If you like, use the stamp you used on the bauble to give some red background detail to this greeting. I also ran the edge of the greeting along the red stamp pad to give the edges some more definition.

Stick the greeting to your card.
